As soon as Nick Vena began to walk into the circle for the final time in his legendary career, the crowd, understanding the magnitude of the situation, began to applaud and encourage the Morristown senior to provide one more magical moment.

As he has done since he burst onto the scene as a record-breaking freshman, the King of the Ring delivered in storybook fashion with a throw for the ages.

The 6-4, 270-pound Vena, who had smashed his meet record earlier in the boys’ shot put competition, capped the greatest throwing performance in state history by launching the 12-pound ball 75-10 1/4 to cap his career in grand style at the 43rd NJSIAA/Star-Ledger/MF Athletics Meet of Champions on Monday at Lombardi Field in Old Bridge.
