Multi-platinum recording artist Gavin DeGraw is no stranger to the top of the charts. The Grammy nominated singer/songwriter first broke through with the 2003 release of his debut album, Chariot, which sold over a million copies, earned platinum certification, and yielded three hit singles: “I Don’t Want To Be,” “Follow Through,” and the title-track, “Chariot.” Gavin’s self-titled second album debuted at No. 1 on the digital sales chart and at No. 7 on Billboard’s Top 200 album chart in 2008,earning Gavin his first Top 10 album. It spawned the hit singles “In Love With A Girl,” which Billboard dubbed “a rocking homerun,” and the gold-certified “We Belong Together.”

In 2009, Gavin released Free as a gift to his die-hard fans clamoring for recorded versions of Gavin’s live favorites. DeGraw released his third studio album, Sweeter, in September 2011. The album’s first single, “Not Over You,” co-written with OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, reached #1 on the Hot AC charts, was a top 10 hit on Top 40, and was certified double platinum. DeGraw’s acclaimed, fourth studio album, Make A Move, was released in October 2013 to rave reviews. Shortly thereafter he was nominated for his first Grammy for “We Both Know,” a song he co-wrote with Colbie Calliat for the 2013 film “Safe Haven.” FINEST HOUR: THE BEST OF GAVIN DEGRAW was released last October via RCA Records featuring two new songs, as well as his most renowned and notable hits to date, including “Not Over You,” “We Belong Together,” and “I Don’t Wanna Be.”

Currently, Gavin is in the studio finishing another full length album of all new songs, which is slated for release in Fall 2016.

MPAC Wins 2016 Outstanding Historic Theatre Award

The Mayo Performing Arts Center has been named 2016 Outstanding Historic Theatre by The League of Historic American Theatres (LHAT).

Allison Larena, president and CEO, and Ed Kirchdoerffer, general manager, accepted the award at LHAT’s annual conference on Sunday, July 17, 2016, in Chicago. The conference is the largest gathering of historic theater professionals in North America.

“It is an honor to be recognized by a distinguished group of peers who work to make historic theatres vital economic engines, community gathering places, and arts and educational centers in the towns we serve,” Larena said.

LHAT’s Awards Program inspires excellence by recognizing theaters and individuals for their significant accomplishments or distinguished service. The Outstanding Historic Theatre Award recognizes a theater that demonstrates excellence through its community impact, quality of programs and services, and quality of the restoration or rehabilitation of its historic structure.

An award-winning theater will have demonstrated excellence through significant achievement, the impact of its services and breadth of populations served, and the length of time and/or intensity of its activities.

Each year, one theater and one individual are honored by LHAT at its annual conference. Former winners include the Fabulous Fox in Atlanta, New York City Center and Playhouse Square in Cleveland.

“Mayo Performing Arts Center beat out an impressive list of nominees to claim this award this year,” said Ken Stein, LHAT President and CEO.

New Jersey Ballet’s 45th anniversary season presentation of the holiday classic Nutcracker will feature musical accompaniment by the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. The collaboration marks the first time that MPAC, New Jersey’s leading ballet company and symphony orchestra have worked together to present the seasonal favorite in Morristown.

“Adding the prestige of New Jersey Symphony Orchestra to the artistry of New Jersey Ballet is sure to make the 45th anniversary of Nutcracker a memorable event for all who attend,” says Allison Larena, President and CEO of MPAC. “There will be extra magic in the air when two of the state’s most acclaimed artistic organizations collaborate, along with MPAC, for this must-see holiday experience.”

“We’re looking forward to the 45th season of our holiday classic, and we’re especially delighted that the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra is joining us at the Mayo Performing Arts Center to create this powerful collaboration of three great New Jersey cultural institutions,” adds Carolyn Clark, Director of New Jersey Ballet.

New Jersey Ballet’s Nutcracker is the longest running original professional production in the state. It debuted in Millburn in 1971 with international star of New York City Ballet Edward Villella as the Cavalier. Since then, the company has given approximately 800 performances in theatres throughout New Jersey, with more than 5,000 dancers and children, and more than a million viewers. Many in the audience who saw the production as children now bring their own children and grandchildren to see this cherished holiday tradition.

New Jersey Ballet’s Nutcracker at MPAC will feature the NJSO under the baton of Gary S. Fagin. When the curtain rises, audiences in Morristown can expect the eye-popping special effects, brilliant dancing, glorious costumes, and the magic and pantomime that have inspired critics to call it “A spectacle that never seems to age…magic that should go on and on,” and “One of the best…as good as it gets.”  Continue reading
