Over the last decade, like many other communities across the state, Morristown has experienced a surge in residential and commercial development, particularly in its downtown area close to the Morristown Green. The community, which is the county seat of Morris County, is known for its wide variety of shops and restaurants, historical attractions, walkability, and transportation access, which has prompted many from across the state and the world to relocate there.
From the Century 21 department store on the Green to Colombian bakeries along Speedwell Avenue to the Mayo Center for the Performing Arts on South Street, there is a lot to see and do despite the town’s relatively small size. Now, another new mixed-use development is being proposed for the community.
According to records from the Morris County Planning Board, the latest project could be built next to the Grasshopper Off The Green pub and restaurant at 45 Morris Street, at the corner of Wilmot Street. The proposal calls for the structure to contain 38 residential units along with retail space, and for the structure to be five stories tall. “The number of proposed parking spaces is fewer than the number of proposed apartment units,” the records state.
