NO BODY DENIED FITNESS SIGNS LEASE FOR 10,000-SQUARE-FOOT SPACE AT THE SHOPS ON THE GREEN IN MORRISTOWN

Roseland, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mack-Cali Realty Corporation, and Woodmont Properties today announced a lease signing with No Body Denied to open a new 10,000-square-foot state-of-the-art health club and personal training studio at the Shops on the Green in downtown Morristown, NJ.

No Body Denied, which has an existing location in Springfield, will occupy space on the lower level of 40 Park.  It will join a growing list of national and regional retailers who have set up shop within the successful 40 Park mixed-use development, including Roots Steak House, Starbucks, Urban Table, Qdoba Mexican Grill, Powerflow Yoga and the AT&T Store.

“No Body Denied is a great addition to the Shops on the Green which has become a centerpiece in Morristown’s dynamic downtown business district,” notes Debra Tantleff, vice president of development at Roseland, which developed 40 Park in partnership with Woodmont Properties.  “The health club complements the other businesses at the Shops on the Green and surrounding area and brings an exciting new amenity to both our residents and the community at large.”

The Shops on The Green features 66,000 square feet of class A retail space that anchors the 76-unit 40 Park luxury condominium building and the 130-unit Metropolitan at 40 Park rental building. “We love the location due to the fact that it’s a young area, it’s affluent and it has grown tremendously in recent years,” said Ken Carrier, president of NBD Fitness.  “It’s an exciting neighborhood, but it is in dire need of a fitness facility.”

The Morristown No Body Denied will be known as the “NBD Training Zone”.  It will offer all of the amenities and equipment found in traditional health clubs, such as cardio machines, free weights, a spinning studio, towel service and upscale locker rooms. Its distinguishing feature, however, will be its affordable personal training and large group training classes. Approximately 70 different classes run by nationally-certified trainers will be offered each week in the gym’s turf-covered personal training studio.

“We know people in Morristown are on the move,” Mr. Carrier said. “The new model we’re rolling out is perfect for people who are busy because we can get you results in 30 minutes. You get in, you get out. It’s 30 minutes of functional training.”

The NBD Training Zone is scheduled to open in late-summer of 2013.  Pre-sale activity will begin approximately 90 days prior to the gym’s grand opening which will give the public an opportunity to learn more about the facility and take advantage of special pre-sale membership rates.

Morristown Starbucks Grand Opening to Be Held July 22

Morristown Location is First Starbucks to Open in New Jersey in Two Years.

The wait is over for Morristown residents counting down the days until they can order their caffe lattes and mocha frappuccinos.

Starbucks, the newest addition to the Shops on the Green, will hold a grand opening celebration on July 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to come enjoy live music, free specialty coffee drinks and complimentary pastries while mingling with local dignitaries and members of the Morristown business community.

This will be the first Starbucks to open in New Jersey in two years. The purveyor of specialty coffees is returning to Morristown after a five-year hiatus and will occupy a 2,100 square-foot storefront at The Shops on the Green at 40 Park, near its original location. The store will be managed by a former Morristown Starbucks employee, Jennifer Perkoski, who has worked at various other local Starbucks since the Morristown location closed in 2006. Mrs. Perkoski has a bond with these local customers, having grown up in Morris Plans, graduated from Morristown High School in 1998 and worked at area Starbucks for 11 years.

“Coming home to manage the Morristown Starbucks is a dream come true for me,” Mrs. Perkoski said. “The store is beautiful. There is a lot of sunlight, brand new equipment and seating for more than 30 people, as well as outdoor seating. The customers I’ve talked to are really looking forward to it and I’m excited that I will have an opportunity to contribute the store’s success.”

Customers who remember the pre-2006 Starbucks will likely be ordering their coffee from some familiar faces. Long-time Baristas Enrique and Terry will join Mrs. Perkoski as employees of the original Morristown Starbucks who are returning to work in the new location at 40 Park.

“As a company, we are very dedicated to the community,” Mrs. Perkoski said. “Our group here will receive time off to volunteer at local soup kitchens and every day, all of the food that we don’t sell will be donated to area charities. We want to do all that we can to give back to the Morristown community.”

The new Starbucks is a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certified store. Starbucks will be following strict guidelines from three categories to maintain its LEED status: construction indoor air quality, waste management and post-construction conservation. The strict practices, including the use of portable air scrubbers and a vacuum system, will eliminate dust and debris from the air, allowing Starbucks customers to enjoy air quality of the highest standards. Additionally, more than 75 percent of material used in the store will be recycled and waste will be minimized through the use of devices such as hand dryers instead of paper towels.

“Finding a retailer that is the right fit for a community is an important part of effective mixed-use development, and we feel that Starbucks is an ideal match for Morristown,” said Debra Tantleff, Vice President of Roseland Property Company, which is spearheading the redevelopment of downtown Morristown in partnership with Woodmont Properties.

The skinny:

The interior has a clean, upscale design. Framed prints adorn the wood-clad walls and a large mural portrays life-size guests enjoying a good time—a familiar real-life scene at this already-popular restaurant. The dining room, which accommodates about 140 guests, features booth as well as table seating, complete with white-linen tablecloths and sleek, comfortable, leather-cushioned chairs. Ambient lighting is accomplished with hanging chandeliers, small sconces and tabletop candles. The expansive bar, separate, but in view of the dining area, seats more than 20.

The cuisine, brought forth by executive chef Steve DeMarco, is that of a traditional steakhouse, featuring popular cuts like the 16-ounce prime New York strip, porterhouse and 12-ounce filet mignon. Of course, there is plenty to choose from besides beef. Starters include lobster bisque, lump-crab cocktail and French onion soup, and salads such as seared salmon with greens, and arugula with sliced tomatoes and fresh mozzarella.

Seafood entrees include shrimp scampi, grilled rare tuna steak Nicoise and 10-ounceswordfish steak served with bacon-garlic butter and oregano. The warm open-face turkey sandwich accompanied by frites, Cobb salad, Goffle Farms chicken breast and spicy barbecue baby back ribs are among the non-beef dinner options. For the best of both worlds, choose surf-and-turf, which pairs a 1 1/4 lobster with any steak or chop.

SIGNATURE SWEETS: Warm butter cake with blueberry compote and whipped cream.

Traditional desserts, overseen by pastry chef Joe Murray, range from Roots’s signature warm butter cake, served with blueberry compote and fresh whipped cream to crème brulée; red velvet cake; and the popular ice cream sundae, which is drizzled with chocolate, caramel and raspberry sauces and garnished with candied pecans.

With a wine list that features more than 100 selections, patrons can find the perfect label to pair with their meals. Top-shelf liquors and champagnes are also available.

Roots is one of Morris Plains-based Harvest Restaurants’ eight eateries located throughout the state, including Tabor Road Tavern in Morris Plains, Ciao in Basking Ridge and Roots Steakhouse in Summit, opened in 2006. Chester “Chip” Grabowski and Bob Moore, owners of the corporation, have continued to expand with the Roots launch this past January, and Urban Table, a casual dining concept, which opened in Morristown in April.

Roots is open for lunch from 11:30 am to 4 pm, Monday through Saturday, and from 12 to 4 pm on Sundays. Dinner is served until 10 pm Monday through Thursday, until 11 pm on Friday and Saturday, and until 9 pm on Sunday.

Mendham Couple Embraces Penthouse Living at 40 Park

When Eldon and Fern Priestley toured one of the penthouse residences at 40 Park in downtown Morristown they knew it was the perfect change for them. The Priestleys were getting tired of maintaining their large home in Mendham and they wanted more time to travel the world. In addition, they saw that they could change the style of their home without sacrificing much living space.

“We walked in and we said ‘this is perfect,’” Mrs. Priestley said. “We wanted to be close to everything that Morristown offers. And we like to travel, so we wanted to be able to just lock the door and go whenever we felt like it.”

It’s nice not having to worry about where we parked our car. We can just get on the train and come back whenever we like.”

The Priestleys moved just in time to avoid a winter full of snow shoveling and windshield scraping. Mr. Priestley, a retired lab manager, said he was actually able to enjoy the snow for the first time in decades. He would sit in his warm penthouse or grab a table at Greenberry’s Coffee and Tea Company and watch it accumulate on the Green.

Having lived in nearby Mendham for more than 20 years, The Priestleys watched Morristown evolve into a thriving, upscale urban community. They were excited to become a part of it, embracing the “new urbanist” way of life.

“We think Morristown is great. It’s a town that cares about its beauty and its architecture,” Mr. Priestley said. “Any time a building is constructed or renovated, they always do a beautiful job. There is so much to do — from feeding your cultural appetite to feeding your natural appetite. We jumped at it when we had the opportunity to buy here, and we couldn’t be happier.”

Developers of Morristown’s “Shops on the Green” Announce Signing of Starbucks

Roseland Property Company and Woodmont Properties announced today that Starbucks has leased a 2,100 square-foot storefront at the “Shops on the Green” in downtown Morristown, paving the way for the national coffee retailer to return to Morristown after a five-year hiatus.

Scheduled to open this summer, Starbucks will occupy a corner shop on the ground floor of the 40 Park luxury condominium building on Park Place, across from the Morristown Green. A steady stream of automobile and pedestrian traffic whisks by the storefront every day, providing plenty of potential customers.

“One of our goals in developing the Shops on the Green was to attract a mix of retail tenants that enhances the lifestyle offered at 40 Park and that complements the existing base of business in downtown Morristown,” said Debra Tantleff, Vice President of Roseland Property Company. “Starbucks certainly fits right in. We’re happy to welcome them back to the community, in a storefront that is very close to their original location.”

Starbucks served coffee, lattes and cappuccinos to Morristown residents from a shop in the former Epstein’s Department Store building until 2006, when Roseland Property Company and Woodmont Properties partnered to redevelop the site. Starbucks Returning to Morristown After 5 Year Hiatus

A Starbucks coffee shop will open by the end of the summer at almost the same spot the Seattle-based coffee company occupied a little more than five years ago.

Starbucks will occupy a 2,100 square foot store at 40 Park, the condominium and retail development on the site of the former Epstein’s Department store, developers of the site announced Monday.

The coffee shop will be located on the corner of Market Street and West Park Place, said Debra Tantleff, vice president of Development for Roseland Property Company. She said a lease agreement was executed a little more than a week ago.

News of Starbucks’ return comes as two other restaurants prepare to open in the same building.

Qdoba, a Mexican fast-food restaurant, and Urban Table, a casual dining restaurant, both will open next week, Tantleff said. Two other businesses, Roots Steakhouse and an AT&T Wireless center, already operate at the site. Roots and Urban table both are owned by the Harvest Restaurant.

Tantleff said 17,000 square feet of the 55,000 square feet of retail at 40 Park have now been leased. Another 11,000 square feet of retail in another building that’s part of the development, the Metropolitan, remain empty.

Developers have said 70 percent of the 76 condos at 40 Park, where the price range is $400,000 to $2.2 million, are sold and all 130 rental units at the Metropolitan, where the monthly rent ranges from $2,000 to $3,600, are occupied.
